Edges
and Dales Charity Walk
2008
Information Sheet
Camp Site:- At Ashford in the Water. SK119/194701 Open for camping on Friday 20th June
All walkers are required to check in with the Walk Co-ordinator, Ian Webster on Friday evening in order that they may be arranged into parties according to their walking experience and capabilities. I.e. Fast Walkers, Good Walkers, Moderate Walkers, Family Parties etc. (Any walker not camping at this weekend , please contact Ian Webster in order that provision can be made for transport to the start and that support is organised.)
The coach will leave the site at 0500 Hrs prompt and will convey you to the start point at Hayfield.
It is essential that you wear strong boots or other suitable footwear, you wear or carry warm clothing including waterproofs and that you carry any food or drink that you may need in addition to that provided by the support party. [Please note that the support meals are very comprehensive minimising the need to carry lots of food.] Although your party leader is equipped with a First Aid pack it is advisable that you carry a small First aid kit with plasters and a whistle is also advisable.
PLEASE if you do feel exhausted or have blistered and find the going tough, it is in your own interest and that of your party to drop out at the next support point.
If you feel you cannot manage the whole walk then why not join the party starting from PERRYFOOT or a shorter walk from WORMHILL. You are required to make your own way to these alternative start points and full details of the times will be available later.
You will NOT be permitted to join an existing party along the route as this would not be in the interest of already tired walkers having to walk alongside fresh and possible faster walkers.
During the Walk please observe the Country Code, closing gates and keeping your dog on a lead with respect to sheep & lambs.
Finally - For the experienced walker the Edges & Dales may seem no more than a Sunday stroll, but to the novice it can prove to be a very hard & sometimes hazardous walk. Bearing this in mind please take notice of your Party Leader - Do not wander off on your own. If nature calls en route make sure someone knows you are behind that rock or bush. - Walk as a party, always keeping the person in front in sight. The party leader or his assistant will always bring up the rear of the party in case someone strays.
You must keep with your party and may only change parties at the support points with the knowledge of the Party leader.
Thank you for participating in this Sponsored Walk. Good Luck & Pleasant Walking
